The Lost Fugitives

On the day of the dead, a portal opens between the land of the living and the dead. The portal calls all souls to it with a brilliant orange light. As the day ends, all souls are called back and the glow of the portal fades away. The lord of Mictlan has no choice and cannot stop this as Death is above his power and this day is her gift to the dead. Her name is La Muerte, the overseer of all matters pertaining to death. Over time, the lord of Mictlan began to engage in cruel acts against those in his lands. La Muerte decided it was time to intervene. Her plan was set in motion by holding the portal between lands open past the day of the dead. A group of 10,000 wandering souls noticed that the portal light did not fade as it normally would after the day was over. They took a chance and turned back to the land of the living. Lord Mictlan sent his beasts after them. At the portal, the beasts met heavy resistance as a small army of fugitives were waiting on the other side, weapons ready. They fought ferociously, and found victory. In the great burn, there were 8,088 lost with only 1,912 surviving. This is how the Lost Fugitives came to be.
